Photographer Nick Whittaker, based in New Zealand and originally from Tāmaki Makaurau (with roots in Whangamatā and Tautahi), has been developing his ocean photography skills for several years. It is inspired by the wild waters around the west coast of the North Island, as well as the sunrises and sunsets around the Coromandel Peninsula. The majority of his work is done either in Muriwai Beach or in Whiangamatā, exploring light, movement and color.

On the border between land, sea and light, this series explores the fugitive moments where the water movement meets the last lights of the day. Waves, tides and undulations become surfaces in perpetual transformation, where deep blue, black and golden shrapnel confront each other.
The time of pose comes to suspend the movement and reveal an almost abstract reality: a wave seems to simmer, the sea becomes electric, the sand turns into graphic matter. New Zealand landscapes are thus born images where light is no longer enough to illuminate the landscape: it becomes the subject of it.
